wake up babe new jimmy mcgee upload that youtube refuses to put in my sub tab
Brilliant! More videos like this please!
i havent finished this video yet and idk who you are but i appreciate you trying to look at the aspects of the game that work/dont work and why exactly that is the case. i also like your simplistic but deliberate editing style
They use "democratise" to mean opening it up to everyone. So that people who are unable or unwilling to learn can still get the benefits. Even worse, but that's how it's used most often
We are not ready for this technology as a civilization. This will kill the internet as we know it. There will be too many bots online, forcing us to congerate into real vetted communities, either by only talking to people who are personally identified. Great video, my first time here!
Would love to see you do an in-depth vid like this on Wargamings diabolically perfect UI and game design. Take one look at the World of Tanks homescreen and you'll know what I mean.
*makes a video critical of AI, uses AI voice (and probably script as well)*
The story was weak for the most part. 100% of the side characters are nobodys. They do not develop in any meaningful way for the player to care about. Why should the player care about any of the side character deaths? Why the protagonist is Nyrele and not the player? Not to mention that the scaling enemies make the game an utter slog to play through. Not to mention the endgame is a freaking joke....
Well, I don't think D3 sucks, persay. D2 and D3 are definitely good but I think we can all agree that D4 does suck. D4 also wastes your time and does not respect it.
One of the best video game documentaries I’ve seen and you really strike the nail on the head. Inadequate developers is not the problem, development designed around monetary gain and addiction is the problem.
path of exile
Lilith is hot.
thanks so much for posting this. i dont know anyone else that does it like you
zzzz boring d3 hate click off
Path of exile is the only live service i truly enjoy. But even they made their game worse to promote skin sales. Imagine if all those poe skins were unlockable through gameplay. Every live service makes the sacrifice and its a bummer.
People crap on Bethesda for 5 dollar horse armor, which they should. We should be crucifying Blizzard for nearly 60 dollar horse armor in D4. That's the price of an entirely new game, or a series of games if you go with Indie or the ever increasing AA market, just to get a fancy pony for this one game. For just that alone, I still standby Grim Dawn as a far better game, and a less predatory program by several leagues. We've reached a point where these can no longer be called microtransactions, but macrotransactions. If you've seen Star Citizen, you know exactly what I mean.
That massive lore page for a hotel that doesn’t exist was probably written in one sitting by a tech bro on meth
I played this game for about 40 or so hours, did the campaign once and the big dungeon to get to the 3rd difficulty. I finished with one character at lv 55 or so and 3 at around 20. I usually never engage with the "end game" in aRPGs and I didnt here either I paid full price for the game. I´m probably gonna play it again for the first time since release when the DLC comes out. I´d rate the game a 7/10, I would recommend it if you´re not some clown who needs his game to have unlimited hours of content for some reason The monetization stuff, while questionable, didnt affect me at all. My biggest complaint is the lack of an offline mode. I have spotty internet sometimes and lag kills the enjoyment completely Thanks for reading my blog post
Your videos make me want to create games Your analysis on game design and game mechanics, and what makes certain game mechanics fun and unfun is genuinely useful information for an indie dev wanting to make a game, everytime I finish one of your videos I have a banger ass video game idea mapped out in my head, what mechanics and systems I might put in place, what the gameplay loop would be and how I would make it interesting and exciting to play. It kinda sucks that I'm unskilled and too lazy to do anything creative lmao 😭 Cool video tho
this an awful long video just to say youve played this game before so dont bother
I fucking hated that cold ending, but it makes sense. It was the best way you could've closed this and it honestly made me think harder than anything you could've said there.
What a good channel I stumbled on today. I'm not a specialist. But I hated Diablo 3 so much, and diablo 4 looked like the Diablo 3 I've always wanted. But I never finished d4, while I finished d3 many times.

As someone who just stumbled upon your channel a few days ago, first off, great work, will be watching again! Also wanted to ask, why did you decide to go for written text, such as 'am losing fights but chipping away at his economy while mine is intact' instead of saying it out loud? Was a little weird, going from comfortably listening to suddenly having to squint my eyes and ultra focus on that text. So curious!
AI being used for evil is even more evident and real with details coming out about 'Lavender', the AI used by Israel to determine bombing targets in Palestine. 972Magazine has the original article in English, but a quick summary: an AI was developed to determine people linked to Hamas, but it often picks out innocent civilians. Almost no human intervention or thought is involved with targeting and bombing- the AI picks a target and their home address, someone checks if that person had come home at some point recently, and a bomb is sent to kill that person and any family members home at that time (typically 5 am). Generally speaking, about 20 civilian casualties for each military target is considered acceptable, but in some cases up to 100 have been allowed. This is in turn also a threat for people (like me) living in the US - the IDF has strong links to police forces in the US and have been used to train US police. Combined with states like North Carolina trying to pass laws banning masks (in part so that protestors can be tracked down from video footage), the use of AI for mass imprisonment or silencing could be a very real possibility in the near future. one source for each, but plenty more sites have reported on these: www.972mag.com/lavender-ai-israeli-army-gaza/ www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/joint-us-israel-police-and-law-enforcement-training www.cbsnews.com/news/north-carolina-masking-bill-pandemic-coronavirus-crime-campus-protest/
wait, should i buy D2 remake? lmao
You should play it, but you shouldn't buy it
It's a shame Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is such a mess because its predecessor Nioh 2 was a real blast, combining the best parts of the classic Diablo loot system with soulslike mechanics. You could mostly ignore loot quality if you just were good at not getting hit by enemies, while taking the time to optimize your loadout would completely break the game (I figured out a combination of two mage sets that gave me an almost 100% chance not to spend spell charges on use and it's somehow weaker than the real meta stuff). Affixes are mostly boring "stat + x%" things but the full list of all stats is three pages long, so at least there's diversity...
It's wild how much of Estonian history is extremely similar to Lithuanian history, especially the recent few centuries. Those last crusades really shaped history for this part of Europe.
Calling this work a 'video essay' really undersells it. This is documentary quality stuff.
the cave gacha segment, now thats using music to prime me for emotion
I had a suspicion the moment I saw Lilith the cover of Diablo 4, Lilith is just Kerrigan 2.0 for a new setting. I have no urge to ever buy a game from ABK ever again but I have my nostalgia for the old titles. Like Diablo started with a small small group of devs I tend to prefer Indie games over AAA anyhow even without ABK C-Suite deserving the Guillotine.
Thank you for representing the great video game that is Rain World!
Song at 35:10 ?
love those chapter names
very good video, very many convincing points. except that one where you say that one shouldnt be able to respec and not be able to respec so cheaply, that has to be an atomically bad take. like comedically bad take, considering you are critiquing the game not being fun.
Wow, watched this to the end. What a ride, I feel like I just tripped. Amazing work and admire the view of this work of art
I have been looking for written works that talk about, roughly, diegesis in environmental design of video games. Have you read anything that touches on this idea? Diegesis might not even be the right word: basically I am looking for works on game semiotics. It is hard for me to put my ideas on this subject into words and a lot of the ideas presented in your work overlap with my thinking. I appreciate the research and dedicated thought you consistently apply to a medium that most approach with incuriousity.
Good video, then the Burroughs sample happened and now it’s a great video
God I'm so glad that you're not pushing that "they fixed it!" narrative that so many crappy games try to push after the colossal and well-earned success that No Mans Sky had, looking very angrily at Bethesdas direction... and saw it at Ubisoft obviously as well, but they're well... Ubisoft...
no mans sky is still not a game. its an empty sandbox with nothing to do. 8 rehashed plannets and 10 rehashed animals that get demonically combined in all possible ways.
Finally, some new Jimmy Kino. Your videos are always insightful and your delivery is very easy on the ears. Thank you for the big sex.
Yooo Cave of Fear OST
I just love how a billion dollar industry is built on a system where we don't really know what it's doing. Even though we made it. We're so cooked.
those fucking genshin emails confuse me every time because its just the most random word salad as the subject with no context as i havent played the game in 5 years
people really should have read the EULAs of whatever websites they decided to post content on once you put something on the internet its not yours anymore, unless you make your own website
Obv the game was going to be bad, we don't need so many videos disecting it. Blizzard told us who they were over ten years ago and havent changed even a bit. But pointing out their repeated faults can still be enjoyable. Blizzard doesnt design games for the western market and story being watered down is the first sign of that.
Great video! You convey your ideas very well and clearly.
